# What is declared stock? A simple guide for sellers

> Declared stock is how many keys one channel is allowed to sell. Here’s when to use it, and when to skip it.

**Declared stock is a limit you set on one channel: "sell up to this many keys, and no more."** Your other channels keep selling from the rest.

By default, every listing you link to a product sells from all of its keys. That's usually what you want: one inventory, every channel selling from it, and nothing sitting idle on a channel that's quiet this week.

Declaring stock is for the times you want something different.

## What declaring does

Declaring sets how many of a product's keys one listing can have on sale. That channel shows exactly that number, and your other channels stop seeing those keys.

It's a limit, not a reservation. No keys are set aside, and a key still only leaves your inventory when a buyer pays for it.

## Leave it shared by default

A listing with nothing declared sells from your whole inventory, alongside every other channel. For most products on most channels, that's the right setting. Stock goes wherever the buyers are, and no keys sit stuck on a channel that isn't selling.

## When a number helps

Declare a number when one channel shouldn't be able to sell everything:

- **A marketplace that sells in bursts.** Cap it, so a promotion or a sudden run on one channel can't empty your stock for the others.
- **Keys for your own store.** Cap what the marketplaces can sell, and the rest stays for your regulars.
- **A new channel.** Start a channel you're still trying out on a small number, and raise it as you go.

## Declaring zero

You can declare zero. The listing stays up on the channel, with nothing on sale behind it. It's handy when you want to keep a listing, but not sell on it for now.

## The rules

- You can't declare more than you hold. For each listing, the most you can declare is the number of keys you have for that product.
- Changes go out straight away. Saving sends the number to the channel without waiting for the next sync.
- Declaring works listing by listing, from the product's sales channels.

## Quick answers

- **Does it put keys aside?** No. It's only a limit. A key leaves your stock only when a buyer pays.
- **Can I set more than I have?** No. The most you can set is the number of keys you hold.
- **What does 0 do?** Your listing stays up, but nothing sells. Useful for a pause.
- **When does the channel see the change?** Straight away, the moment you save.
- **Can I remove the limit later?** Yes. Open Declare stock on the listing and click Stop declaring.
- **Should I set it on every listing?** No. Most listings sell best shared. Set a limit only when one channel shouldn't sell everything.
